About Sunitara Jyotish
Sunitara Jyotish is a free Vedic astrology software. You enter your date, time and place of birth, and you read your complete Vedic birth chart, explained in simple words: Lagna (ascendant), Moon sign, nakshatra, houses, dashas, transits and love compatibility.
What is a Vedic birth chart? It is the map of the sky at the moment of your birth, read according to Jyotish, the astrology of India. It is based on the sidereal zodiac, aligned with the stars, and gives great importance to the ascendant (Lagna), to the Moon and to its star, the nakshatra.
Why isn't my sign the same as in Western astrology? The sidereal zodiac is shifted by about 24° compared with the Western zodiac. Your Sun therefore often falls in the previous sign. In Jyotish, people recognise themselves above all through their ascendant, their Moon and their nakshatra.
What is a nakshatra? It is one of the 27 lunar stars of the Vedic sky. The one where the Moon stood at your birth describes your deep nature, and is the starting point for calculating your life periods (dashas).
What can I see in the software? Your complete chart: ascendant, planets in signs and houses, lunar star with its pada, its yoni and its gana, the twelve houses, the yogas, your life periods, the current transits, your day, and love compatibility between two charts.
Is it free, and is my data saved? The software is free and needs no sign-up. Your date and time of birth stay in your browser, on your device. Only the name of the town you type is sent to a place-search service, to find its coordinates.
